About India Gate
Also known as the “All India War Memorial”, India Gate is the place of great significance to both the past and present generations of India. It is associated with the British rule in India and also stands tall as an important symbol of India’s democratic status, for the Republic Day Parade is held each year at the India Gate.

You can have a beautiful ride and view the fountains lit-up in tri-colors of the Indian National Flag which are a treat to the eyes.
Amar Jawan Jyoti and the Canopy
Under the arch of India Gate, where pre-Independence stood the statue of King George 5 now stands the ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ or the ‘Flame of the Immortal Soldier’. This tomb is a dedication to the countless soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the country. This is the way to immortalize them in the memory of the whole country. This cenotaph was constructed in 1971 after the India-Pakistan war and was inaugurated by Mrs. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India. At every major state event the President, the Prime Minister and other important political personalities pay homage to the soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti. One soldier from either of the military forces of India namely Army, Navy and Air Force remains on duty to guard the tomb everyday. There also stands a Canopy behind the India Gate which is made in sandstone; also designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.
Entry Charges to India Gate: There are no entry charges to the India Gate. You can visit the place anytime as there are no visiting hours.
Other Major Attractions around India Gate
Rashtrapati Bhavan Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the Parliament House is the official residence of the President of India. It is built in the huge area of 2, 00,000 sq feet. The house has 4 floors and 360 rooms and is an excellent piece of architecture. You can view the Rashtrapati Bhavan from the India Gate.
Mughal Gardens The official gardens of the state; Mughal Gardens is where you can see beautiful plants, flowers and birds. It is known for being home to 250 varieties of roses and a lotus shaped fountains. There are two big lawns covered with rare ‘Doob’ grass. The gardens are open for the public view during the months of February and March otherwise public entry is restricted to the gardens.
Children’s Park Situated just next to India gate, this park is an ideal place for children have a very good time. The beautiful park has many swings and slides for the children. The greenery and beauty of the place can be soothing for adults as well.
Pragati Maidan Pragati Maidan meaning ‘the field of progress’ staying true to its name is the centre of India’s trade promotion. Here, an annual ‘Trade Fair’ is held every year and around 70 National and international exhibitions are held every year at this place. It has 18 exhibition halls. Trade Fair beginning on 14th November every year is the largest fair organized in the country for Trade Promotion and it is held on a very large scale.
Supreme Court of India Built on a square plot of 22 acres, the Supreme court of India is the highest body of judiciary in India. It hears appeals against the judgments of the High court and of the courts of other states. It also interferes in the matters of the violation of the human rights and in cases which require urgent hearing.
Republic Day Celebrations at India Gate
India Gate also hosts India’s Republic Day celebrations every year which makes this monument all the more important to the Indians. The parade is held on the Rajpath which is the road connecting Rashtrapati Bhavan and the India Gate. India Gate turns into the spectacular site on 26th January when thousands of people from Delhi and the other states of India come to witness the grand celebrations of India’s republic. The President of India after paying homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti takes the salute from the soldiers of all the three military forces of India. The National Anthem is also sung along with the Flag hoisting ceremony to mark the occasion. People also witness floats representing different states of India and depicting their rich culture.
